People are in love with mobile phones

We are so in love with mobile phones that nine out of 10 adults quizzed reveal they cannot get through a day without them. Experts say that they are the new garden fence allowing us to catch up on gossip and with friends.
Social anthropologist Kate Fox said: "They have restored our sense of community and provided a highly effective antidote to the pressures and alienation of modern life."

Mobile users are so attached to their handset that more than 80 per cent do not turn them off during sex. More than half of 18 to 24-year-olds like to get dates by phone. Half again have sent raunchy messages but older people think that amounts to cheating on their partner.
Most of the 18 to 40 age group said a mobile has improved their lives. And even 45 per cent of the nation's oldies say they are the best way of keeping in touch with the grandchildren.

Even when we upgrade, a third of people cannot bear to be parted from their old phone. A quarter would feel isolated if they lost theirs and nine per cent would be unable to carry on normally.
In total 16,500 people were quizzed for the Carphone Warehouse. It found that half of workers do business by mobile.
