FIFA verdict on Zidane today

FIFA's disciplinary panel will deliver its verdict today on Zinedine Zidane's World Cup final head-butt on Marco Materazzi and subsequent red card.

FIFA is investigating the conduct of both players, although it has declined to speculate on possible punishments.
Zidane will appear in person at the closed hearings at FIFA's Zurich headquarters. The former France captain has already given a written statement and will deliver oral testimony to the panel today, said FIFA spokesman Andreas Herren.

Materazzi appeared last week before the disciplinary committee to answer questions about what he did to provoke Zidane.
Zidane, who has now retired from soccer, was sent off for ramming his head into the defender's chest in extra time of the July 9 final in Berlin.

The match was drawn 1-1 with Italy winning 5-3 on penalties.
Zidane has said on French television Materazzi insulted his mother and sister.
Materazzi has admitted insulting Zidane but denied verbally attacking Zidane's mother.
FIFA will make the verdict public today.
