Series of bomb attacks in Mumbai

Millions of people in India's financial capital returned to work on Wednesday a day after bomb attacks. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said the country would not kneel to terrorism.

Investigators said they had prepared sketches of three suspects seen at some of the sites of the seven coordinated bomb blasts. The blasts in Mumbai left 186 people dead and 714 injured, raising concern overseas funds will increase sales of Indian stocks, stalling a recovery that sent the benchmark index up 22 percent from a six-month low on June 14. India's benchmark 30- stock Sensitive index today rose 3 percent to 10,930.09, the highest in almost two months.

Around 700 people were wounded when the bombs blew railway carriages and stations packed with rush-hour commuters in the space of just 11 minutes.

The death toll was the worst since a series of bombs killed more than 250 in Mumbai in 1993. The attacks were also reminiscent of serial bomb blasts on commuter rail networks in Madrid and London in the past two years.

Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz yesterday issued a statement condemning the attacks.
More than two dozen separatist groups are fighting Indian rule in Jammu & Kashmir since 1989 and the rebel campaign has already claimed about 50,000 lives.
