First look at new BMWs

BMW is getting busy with a clutch of new convertibles and the next-generation X5 off-roader.

These computer-generated images show how the crop of new cars from the manufacturer is likely to look.

The X5 might not look very different from the current model, but it's an all-new car. The company isn't revealing any details just yet, but it's thought that the new X5 is bigger with a view to making it a seven-seater.

That will keep the BMW up with the likes of the Audi Q7 and new Mercedes GL, both of which have space for seven. We expect the new BMW to appear before the end of this year and go on sale early in 2007.

The 3 Series convertible will probably arrive in time for next summer. Our artists have used the recently unveiled coupe as a basis to show what the car will look like. It's still unknown whether BMW is going to use a fabric or a metal roof on the convertible, however.

Finally there's the M6 convertible. When the awesome 507bhp coupe version of the car was unveiled in December 2004, BMW wasn't sure whether it would produce a drop-top version.
