Google calls Sitemaps “an experiment in web crawling”. In general, you place a sitemap on to your web server. This helps the crawlers identify the pages you have and add it to the search index. And when you update your site map (after changing a page or adding new content), it also marks the pages you’ve changed and makes a note of what order to review it

I recently (today) got my invitation from Google to try out their latest web app, Google Spreadsheets. After messing around with it for a few minutes, here is what I thought about it. When it seemed that Google was going no where and just releasing random features, they kept pushing. And know I am writing about the newest feature in the Web 2.0 migration. Google Spreadsheets is Google’s next attempt in getting rid of desktop apps and replacing them with an access anywhere solution

Hackers on Sunday broke into a part of Microsoft's French Web site, replacing the front page with online graffiti. The intruders were able to access the server that was running http://experts.microsoft.fr/, Microsoft confirmed Monday. With Microsoft developers scrambling to patch a security hole in Excel, a hacker has now posted code that exploits a second vulnerability in the spreadsheet software. Microsoft says that criminals are not yet using this code in attacks, but the software could be used to run unauthorised programs on a PC, according to Marc Maiffret, chief hacking officer at security software vendor eEye Digital Security

These are instant applications which can be assembled just-in-time (and not created from scratch) from the rich pallette of services and feeds available on the Web and in the enterprise. They are situational because they can be created right as the situation they are needed for appears, and even thrown away when the reason for their existence goes away. This could also result in less requirements speculation and creep, two well known problems with longer, more drawn out development processes

Without the need to download or install any additional applications, Globe customers can now upload their photos and video clips directly from their compatible Nokia Nseries device to G-Blogs, Globe's mobile blogging service. Opera Software on Tuesday in the US released the newest version of its popular browser, which is designed to offer several improvements over its predecessors. Opera 9, which had been in beta since April, includes features designed to improve the efficiency of Web surfing, enhance security and allow users greater control over the content they view. Opera 9 aims to allow users to relaunch their browser where they last left off, as well as block advertisements on a site-specific basis
