Nokia, the world's largest cell phone maker has started its first public Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) pilot over Wireless LAN that which allows users to seamlessly roam and handover between local area networks and wide area networks using the same dual-mode device. Fifty families in Oulu near the polar circle in northern Finland will be trying and testing the functionalities of this new technology with the help of a new Nokia 6136 mobile device over the next two months

Microsoft Corp, the world's largest software maker, will not adjust prices of its Xbox 360 game console this year in response to the scheduled release of Sony Corp's PlayStation 3 in November. Microsoft plans to cut the price of its most expensive Xbox 360 from US$399 to US$299, DigiTimes reported yesterday, citing unidentified Taiwanese suppliers. Apple is starting to build a serious repertoire of TV shows for its US iTunes store with the addition of Warner Bros to its stable of suppliers. New radar maps of Titan appear to show that the moon has surface lakes dotted around its northern pole. No solar system object other than Earth has been shown to have standing bodies of liquid on its surface, so the discovery is remarkable. Titan's lakes would not, of course, be full of water. They would almost certainly be some kind of hydrocarbon - most likely methane or ethane. The radar maps show dark patches with channels leading in and out of them

Big news from BT. Nope it is not the announcement of the launch of its broadband TV service BT Vision, that’s coming in the autumn, rather the company has announced a deal with Universal to offer the film company’s movies for downloads via its BT Vision website and, in the future, via its BT Vision set top box. The first Blu-ray burning software for Macintosh has arrived from Roxio, a division of digital media software company Sonic Solutions. The software Toast 7 will enable Mac users who buy external Blu-ray drives, due to hit the market within two months, to store up to 50 GB of data on recordable discs. The present generation of Macs does not include native support for Blu-ray media so Toast 7 has hit the market at the right time to exploit the needs of early adopters

This week Intel and Micron announced that their joint memory company, IM Flash Technologies, produced the world's first NAND flash memory samples based on 50nm fabrication technology. The new memory is currently sampling out in 4Gbit devices. Both Intel and Micron said that they plan to ramp up production and mass produce a range of densities based on 50nm in 2007. The new memory will be available on a range of devices and samples will be shipping to manufacturers soon

Motorola, the world's second-biggest maker of mobile phones, has unveiled several new handsets, including the KRZR and the RIZR, which are narrower than its flagship RAZR. The new models are part of a family of mobile phones that Motorola is building around the RAZR, which has helped the company revitalize its brand in the last two years
