Fujitsu Siemens Computer (FSC) reckons that customers can get one of its Primergy BladeFrame servers up and running with a base configuration in under two minutes. The company said that an implementation was performed recently for one of its public sector customers looking for servers that can be deployed quickly and can support high performance, mission-critical applications. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) approved the new domain ".tel," awarding a contract to Telnic, an Internet communications company based in London in a decision made last Tuesday, said Andrew Robertson, spokesman for ICANN in London. Telnic applied for the domain in October 2000, says it envisions creating a universal text and navigation system for contact information over the Internet

In a surprising decision, Skype announced that all US and Canadian-based Skype customers can now make free SkypeOut calls to traditional landline and mobile phones in the US and Canada. Previously, Skype users in both countries were required to pay for Skype calls from their PCs to traditional telephones. Free SkypeOut calls to the US or Canada will be available to US and Canadian-based Skype users until the end of the year

Adult film studio Vivid Entertainment launched on Monday a service called Vivid Burn to DVD, a solution that allows viewers download the studio's popular adult films directly and burn a personal DVD copy on a home PC. The discs can then be played on any compatible device, on a DVD player conencted to a TV set, on a computer DVD drive, enabling customers t o watch adult shows on DVD just as they did on purchased discs.
